Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.

Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.

Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.

Proton Easy Switch
Migrate from Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud Mail or AOL to Proton Mail in just a few taps. Your messages, calendars and contacts are transferred automatically, so you’re up‑and‑running in moments—without any manual exporting or importing.

Gmail Auto‑forwarding
Enable auto‑forwarding from any number of Gmail accounts and funnel all the emails that matter into your Proton Mail inbox. Preserve Gmail’s convenience while adding an extra layer of privacy protection.

Proton Mail in the press:

ā€œProton Mail is an email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.ā€ Forbes

ā€œA new email service being developed by a group from MIT that met at CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.ā€ Huffington Post

New update made things worse. Please add a high contrast option because currently it's almost impossible to tell the difference between read and unread emails. They look almost identical. Also, when opening a message thata grouped, please label again the location of other emails. For example, I'll open a new email, and it lists other related emails that are in the trash, but it doesn't label any more that they are in the trash.

We understand that some users prefer the previous layout. The update was designed to improve readability and consistency across devices, but we’ve shared your feedback with our design team as we continue refining the app. Thank you for letting us know your thoughts!

Good, but they are acting up these days. and making my life sending emails much harder. It's hard copying and pasting anything now. While I am typing and trying to edit the email, it suddenly jumps to a different part of the email or delete the draft. I have to read and read to see where I was. Wow 😳 What used to take me 5 mins, now takes an hour to edit when the entire email jumps away from where I'm typing every 15 secs or so. Why? To my recollection, I have never seen this happen anywhere.

Hi Nicki! Sorry to hear about the trouble. Could you report this to us via the "Report a problem" feature in the app and describe the exact steps you take so we can look into it?

This could work in conjunction with another app, but as a standalone it is just no. The login process was buggy for me, I signed up and when asked for a recovery email I put my Gmail account, after verifying that I was not a bot I was brought back to the previous screen to pick a recovery method, and the app just softlocked and I had to restart it to even get in. After that, the first thing I see is a subscription model. Instant disgust, would not recommend at all.
